Blog Archive Beyond the MBA Classroom Themed Parties at Wharton When you select an MBA program, you are not just choosing your learning environment, but are also committing to becoming part of a community. Each Thursday, we offer a window into life “beyond the MBA classroom” at a top business school. Social life for Wharton students picks up in preterm (August) and maintains a healthysome may say freneticpace right up through graduation. This includes several organized theme parties. The Foam Party is typically one of the first parties of the year and takes place during fall semester at the Shampoo nightclub in North Philly. As expected, the star of the party is the wet foam being generated throughout the event by machinesâ€"and which can sometimes rise above head level. A word from the wise: wrap your phone, wallet and valuables in at least one Ziploc bag! The 80s party, first organized by the school’s Media Entertainment Club in 2005, has grown in stature to become one of the biggest parties of the year. Students dress up like their favorite icons from that decade and dance the night away to hits by Madonna and Depeche Mode. Without question, one of the biggest events of the spring semester is the Wharton 54 party. Sponsored by Out for Business, Wharton’s LGBT professional and social club, the event is a tribute to the music, fashion and disco-fabulousness of the 70s. The party is typically held at a high-end night club (the venue changes from year to year) and features student dance performances. The Effectiveness of the Juvenile Justice System The American juvenile justice system was designed over 100 years ago to reform kids who were found guilty of minor crimes such as petty theft and truancy. Today, the system is becoming overwhelmed by crimes of violence. Stealing and skipping school have been replaced by rape and murder. The juvenile justice system was never meant to deal with these kinds of problems. Juvenile delinquency describes the antisocial behavior of many different types of youth who are in trouble, or who are on the brink of trouble with the law. In general terms juvenile delinquency means different things to different people. In Rhode Island, Craig Price, age fifteen, deliberately killed a mother and her two young daughters. Yet, this wasnt his first offense, nor his first murder. Two years earlier he had murdered another woman. He also had a long record of assaults, burglaries, and other crimes. In Chicago, two of the neighborhoods toughest bullies lured a five year old boy and his eight year old brother up to an empty fourteenth floor apartment.
